Instrumentation & Monitoring

Taber Consultants has been installing inclinometer monitors throughout Northern California since the early 1970's. These have proven useful both as predictive tools for imminent slope failure (monitoring slide creep) and for measuring structure tilt, etc. Site-soils movement is also measured with settlement platforms and strain monitors; site-soils permeability with percolation pits and air entry permeameters.

Field monitoring capabilities include instruments and trained personnel for the reading of air samples, water pressures and groundwater levels (and taking water samples). Available in-house, for use as study needs require, are photoionization detectors, air sampling bellows, well development / sampling pumps, flow meters, piezometers, well points, etc.

Taber Consultants, as a licensed drilling contractor (C-57), has provided monitoring well installation and destruction services for a number of years. The strength of the firm's abilities in this area are demonstrated by repeat assignments from both the University of California Extension (UCD) and CAL-EPA to present courses in monitor well design and construction. Supplemental equipment such as transducers and drum recorders are commonly used to document water level, pump recharge and evaporation studies. BAT and Hydropunch systems are available to provide permeability and water sampling capability without the expense of well construction and produce groundwater samples suitable for "semi-quantitative" analyses. CPT can also be used to monitor pore pressure dissipation rates or hydrostatic levels.

Other in-house enviro-geological instrumentation available includes lysimeters, tensiomenters and gas probes. Taber personnel are experienced in proper installation procedures and reading / sampling protocol
